HAMBURGER STEAK WITH CREAMY ONION GRAVY

Ingredients:

For the Patties:

  • 3 tablespoons of a neutral cooking oil (such as canola or vegetable oil)
  • 1.5 pounds of ground chuck (80/20)
  • ¾ cup of finely minced onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon of a hot sauce (like Tiger Sauce), optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon of seasoned salt
  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon of freshly cracked black pepper

Around ⅓ cup of all-purpose flour for coating the patties

For the Gravy:

  • 1 large Vidalia or other sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced (approximately 3 cups)
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 1 cup of water
  • ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon of seasoned salt, adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, adjust to taste
  • ½ tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, optional
  • 1 teaspoon of browning and seasoning sauce (such as Kitchen Bouquet), optional
  • 2 cups of sliced mushrooms, optional
